A Day of Random TCG Thoughts

A Day of Random TCG Thoughts

Today ended up being one of those days where we looked at different TCG products without actually deciding anything, so I thought I would just leave a record here, in case it becomes useful later (though it probably won’t). The morning started with someone mentioning a card sleeve color that “felt different,” but no one could explain what “different” meant. We looked at a few sample sleeves, compared them under different lights, and honestly, none of us could tell the difference anymore. Maybe the gloss changed a little? Maybe the matte texture was slightly more matte than yesterday? It’s hard to say. Anyway, we put everything back where it was.

Around noon, we opened a couple of random booster packs—not for testing anything important, just because we were curious what the pull rates felt like. Completely unscientific, obviously. Someone pulled a card they said “looked cool but wasn’t actually useful,” so the entire discussion shifted into whether artwork affects how players think about their decks. We didn’t come to a conclusion. Some said yes, some said no, some said they don’t even look at the card art half the time. I feel like this happens every time we talk about anything related to cards.

We also briefly talked about deck boxes, but again, nothing was finalized. One person thought a certain hinge design seemed “kind of loose,” but then said it might just be the sample being weird. Another person said the color looked slightly different under warm lighting, but another person said it looked the same. We ended up holding the deck box in three different corners of the room, and somehow everyone saw something different. Eventually, someone suggested we “revisit later,” which usually means “never,” but I’m writing it down just in case.

In the afternoon, someone mentioned binders, so we flipped through a few pages to see if the pockets felt “stronger or weaker than last time.” No one remembered what last time felt like, so we just kept flipping pages. One pocket felt slightly tighter than the others, but we couldn’t agree if that was manufacturing variance or just our imagination. After five minutes, we gave up and said it was “fine for now.” That seems to be the theme today.

We also considered updating our TCG accessory size chart, but nobody could remember which version was the newest version. We found three spreadsheets with similar names, none of which had complete information. Eventually, someone said the current chart is “probably ok enough,” so we left it at that.

Overall, this day didn’t produce any results, decisions, insights,or conclusions. But since we technically discussed TCG-related things for most of the day, I thought it wouldn’t hurt to leave a long note here. Maybe one day we’ll look back and find some hidden meaning, though I doubt it. Mostly this is just to avoid forgetting what we did today, even though what we did today doesn’t matter much anyway.
