From Pack to Binder: How to Handle New Cards Like a Pro
Share
So you’ve just pulled your dream card—congrats! But now what?
If you want your collection to stay pristine and organized, the first few minutes after opening a new pack matter more than you think.
1. Wash and Dry Your Hands
Natural skin oils, crumbs, or even slight moisture can damage card surfaces. Always start with clean, dry hands—or better, use gloves if you’re handling high-value cards.
2. Use a Clean Surface
Avoid opening packs on textured, sticky, or dirty surfaces. Lay out a clean playmat or smooth desk surface. Consider using a microfiber cloth underneath.
3. Sleeve Immediately
Don’t wait! If you pull something valuable (even emotionally valuable), put it straight into a soft penny sleeve. Then slide it into a hard top-loader or binder sleeve.
4. Sort by Set or Category
Before dumping cards into piles, take a moment to group them by set, rarity, type, or theme. This makes later organization way easier.
5. Record Key Pulls
Start a digital or physical log of important cards you pull, especially ones with high value or sentimental importance. This helps with future trades and insurance tracking.
6. Store Long-Term
Once sorted and sleeved, move your cards into labeled binders or deck boxes that match your collection style—bonus points if they match your aesthetic!
A little care now saves a lot of regret later. Treat each card like a piece of your collection’s legacy—it deserves a good home.
